Kalki has all the right reasons to be believe that her 'Shanghai' will hit the bull's eye. Not just does she feel that with Dibakar Banerjee at the helm of affairs, the film has turned out to be special; she also is of the view that audience is more receptive than ever before for films that are not routine and break conventions.

"Today, audience is ready for such kind of films. We have already seen 'Kahaani', 'Paan Singh Tomar', 'Vicky Donor' and 'Ishaqzaade' turn out to be good successes. 2012 is the year of small films and 'Shanghai' would be a welcome addition to that", she says.

The promos have indicated that the film has a definite sense of intrigue to it. "Yes, 'Shanghai' is a gritty dramatic affair with a conspiracy theory in the background. There is a definite suspense to the tale with the game of politics involved. Of course I can't reveal the story but I can tell you that I am playing someone who wants to uncover the truth. Her journey is to go out and uncover the mystery behind this conspiracy", she says.

However the journey didn't quite take place without a tear or two being shed. Kalki reveals that to bring alive the film's character, she had to chop her hair at the very beginning of the month long schedule of 'Shanghai'.

"Time and again people ask whether Dibakar brings actors out of their comfort zone. Well, here was my moment of getting into that discomfort the minute my hair was cut", she giggles, "I used to be so depressed on waking up in the morning as I thought I looked like a complete idiot. Ultimately I gave up on the situation I was in and instead of pitying over my real self, I started working on getting the reel character right."

We hope that indeed pays dividends Kalki. Also starring Farooq Sheikh, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Supriya Pathak in principal roles, 'Shanghai' with music by Vishal-Shekhar releases all over on 8th June.
