Captain Vijayakanth’s first directorial venture 'Virudhagiri' is in its final stages of work and will hit the theatres soon. At this time we hear something interesting about the film.

When Vijayakanth wanted to do a different kind of film after ‘Engal Aasaan’ his creative team developed a script based on the Hollywood crime thriller ‘Edge of Darkness’ by Mel Gibson. Though the captain liked the script he felt the budget for it would be not less than 15 crores.

So instead he wanted to do a family entertainer like the classic ‘Enga Veetu Pillai’ by MGR. ‘Enga Veetu Pillai’ was an out of the ordinary film which increased the fan base of MGR numerous folds. Then according to his instructions his scripting team developed a character which is as energetic as the characters of MGR in ‘Enga Veetu Pillai’.

Captain has seen ‘Enga Veetu Pillai’ more than 70 times in his youth in Madurai Central Theatre. And after he became a successful actor he has even asked his mentor SA Chandrasekaran once to write a bubbly script on the lines of MGR’s ‘Enga Veetu Pillai’. SAC who could not see the future then jokingly asked Vijayakanth whether he has any plans to become the CM.
