The trailer of ‘War Chhod Na Yaar’ which released around three weeks ago has sparked various kinds of debates in the online media with people from the Pakistan side accusing the film of disrespecting the Pakistani Army and portraying them in a bad light.

Touted as India’s First War Comedy, ‘War Chhod Na Yaar’ is a first of its kind in Bollywood, with a humorous take on the Indo-Pak situation which has been always dealt with serious films like Border and LOC.

The Youtube comments section on the trailer of the film has been receiving a lot of controversial comments and has become a battle ground where people from the other side of the border continue to accuse the sensibilities of the Director and how he has defamed the Pakistani Army by showing them as foolish and inefficient whereas the Indian army is shown as brave and efficient. This in turn has caused equally violent retorts from Indian fans and a War itself has emerged online. ‘War Chhod Na Yaar’ has ended up almost creating war with some fans are even saying the movie will spoil the atmosphere of peace which the PM is trying to create through his meeting the Pakistani PM.

When asked whether this was what he planned to show in his film, Faraz Haider replied, "I have just tried to show the realities on both the sides and I don’t mean to insult any institution or country". He also added, "War Chhod Na Yaar is a satire shown through the prism of war. The movie has handled a subject as serious as war with the weapon of humour."

On watching the trailer unbiasedly one does feel the Pakistani side has been shown as undisciplined and starving for good food etc. Whether these can be termed as cinematic liberties is a matter of personal judgement.

To complicate things further ‘War Chhod Na Yaar’ has a song sung by two Pakistani Sujhath Ali Khan and Ali Azmat.

Whether ‘War Chhod Na Yaar’ ends up preventing war or creating it is to be seen when it releases on Oct 11th. Also whether the movie will end up spoiling the goodwill the political establishment of the country is trying to create needs be seen too.
