Director Sargunam’s ‘Kalavani’ is in its third stage of shooing with ‘Pasanga’ fame Vimal and debutant Oviya in the lead. Sargunam who belong to Thanjavur has shot almost 70% of the film in his hometown.

When we contacted Kalavani’s director, he said, “I worked under writer Kalaimani and director Vijay of ‘Kireedam’ fame. Just like how Tamil cinema has used other popular slangs of the state, I have made the characters of ‘Kalavani’ speak in Thanjavur slang as the story is made with Thanjavur as its backdrop. I have tried to see the contemporary villages in Thanjavur district. It’s not like before with no electricity, road and people with backward thoughts. Now-a-days we have English medium schools, everyone has cell phones, and Temple festivals are celebrated in a different way. I have tried to show those changes brightly in ‘Kalavani’.”

“Kalavani is about a guy who studies in a tutorial college in his home town and is very naughty. Heroine Oviya comes to the hero’s village to study in 11th class. I have tried to tell their love story with a lot of humour and tell how people in village handle love,” adds the director.

Produced by Nazir under the banner of Sherali Films, the film will have its music by S.S. Kumaran. We hear that the whole team is working hard to get the film released on Valentines Day (Feb 14th).
