As the release date of Karthik-starrer Yuganiki Okkadu is approaching, hype around it is raising too. The Sri Raghava directorial is a semi-period film, which has been made at an expensive cost of Rs. 40 cr. The film's hero Karthik is the brother of actor Surya. A good part of the film in the second half is set in the 12th century, which its makers say has cost them a bomb, besides warranting an elaborate and extensive research into the way of life etc of the people who lived during the period, before then launching the filming part.

Reema Sen is paired opposite Karthik, whose first film Paruthiveeran released three years ago had a record run in Chennai. Recently, its hero said that he hoped that Aayirathil Oruvan (the Tamil version and original) will see a 2-year run.

Produced by R Raveendran, the film has music by GV Prakash Kumar. In the film Karthik plays Muthu, while Reema and Andrea Jeremiah play Anitha and Lavanya respectively.

It is touted as a fantasy thriller. Director Raghavan is making a film in this genre for the first time. Though he hails from Kollywood, Raghavan is pretty much popular in Telugu too, where his films 7/G Brindavan Colony, a bi-lingual, and Aduvari Matalaku Arthale Verule, a straight Telugu film, were excellent BO hits.
