Hundreds of film buffs eagerly gathered at the British Film Institute (BFI) and cheered Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram and others, as Mani Ratnam's much-awaited ‘Raavan’ had a star-studded world premiere in London.

Not just those associated with ‘Raavan’, but the show was also attended by Bollywood bigwigs like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. Also present was Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman, who has composed music for the film.

Shah Rukh and his family were invited to the premiere by none other than the senior Bachchan and Abhishek profusely thanked them for coming. Abhishek, who has played the title role in the Hindi version, said it had always been his endeavour to give “better and better performances.”

“Raavan is by far the most challenging film I have ever done — both physically and mentally,” he said. Aishwarya, who walked down the red carpet with husband Abhishek, said, “The physical demand in this film was immense not only for the actors, but also the crew and technicians.”

Mani Ratnam, who always allows his work to do all the talking, said, “It is just a few meters away... lets see it. ‘Raavan’ has been done with spirit. We have all worked hard.” On choosing Aishwarya for the lead role, he said, “She was right for it. Is there any other reason?”
