'Aligarh' is a movie based on the real life incident of Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras who was later suspended from his job because of his sexual orientation. Siras was one of the renowned professors of Marathi at the Aligarh Muslim University. Later sometime, after successfully appealing his suspension, he died in suspicious circumstances. Talented Manoj Bajpai plays the role of Siras, while brilliant Rajkummar Rao plays a journalist in the movie who helps him out from this issue. This movie is directed by renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta and written by Apurva Asrani, this controversy movie is backed up by Eros Entertainment and Karma Pictures.

The movie 'Aligarh' is based on true events and the plot revolves around Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras. He was later sacked from his job on the charges of homosexuality. A sting operation was conducted by a local TV channel which showcased him to be having a relationship with a rickshaw puller.

The film is slated to be released on 26 February 2016.
