It seems to be a crucial juncture for Janapriyanayakan Dileep that any movie that doesn't accompany his characteristic funny ways and characters won't even start well. The latest to support this case is senior director Joshy’s 'Avathaaram', which tells a revenge story with out any Dileep brand of offerings. With nothing to excite his regular fans the child folk' the movie is sure to exit soon from release centres. Avatharaam has Dileep as Madhavan Mahadevan, a simple ordinary guy and a mechanical engineering graduate who arrives to the city from his silent village of Bison Valley. In the city, he accompanies his sister in law Valsala, whose husband a custom’s officer, has died recently in an accident. While Madhavan is trying to help Valsala to settle the insurance claims, he meets Manimekhala(Lekshmy Menon), an orphan working with the LIC who falls for him. And in another few days, Madhavan also realises that his brother's death was a planned murder, executed by the mafia ruling the streets of Kochy. Now Madhavan is all set to dig out the truth behind the incidents and to get the men behind. How he manages this with his brainy ways follows the rest of the predictable plot. The scripts by Vyasan Edavankkad offers nothing new, though it unleashes in a structured way and in the proper commercial narrative chemistry. The dialogues are simple, sometimes witty and sometimes inadequate. The screenwriter has tried to bring in suggestions about all the recent social issues in the state. But in the attempts to carve a revenge story helmed by an ordinary man, what falters is in the 'not so intelligent way's with which Madhavan manages the deeds. Simcards, simple handphone softwares and some wire meshes, the evacuation of the city’s all menace is done just as easy as you could never think about it. The twists that are planned in the later half appear non effective as the viewers cold predict the villains and proceedings, miles before they unleash on the screens. The only things that work for the movie is the pacy packaging by Joshy, whose experience has made it an average stuff from a very ordinary, tried and tested and cliched plot lines. Some fine visual support by R D Rajasekhar and a few good songs by Deepak Dev lessen the strains of watching another regular vengeance tale devoid of brains. Also is the heavy BG by Deepak Deve support that holds the movie throughout. The two songs in the movie are finely pictured though the dress codes in the later song do not suit its protagonists. In the acting side, the role offers nothing to Dileep who had been through this kind of roles, many times. Lekshmy Menon appear fine in her role while Joy Mathew, Shammi Thilakkan, Sijoy Varghese are in some meaty roles. With all his experience in thriller films, it needs to be noted that Joshy could definitely wait for better screenplays than this, that suit his stature of the greatest hit maker of Mollywood. 'Avathaaram' doesn't have much to showcase his talents, just another movie to add to his numbers. In the Box Office too, this may not be a safe bet. Rating - 5.75/10
