What is it all about?

A lovingly welcome breeze of tease on B-town romcom (romedy as we all say). Illuminati Films and Eros International’s comedy about romantic comedies oozes with confidence, smartness, wittiness and knock out performances.

After the whacky bloody fun ride in ‘Go Goa Gone’,   Illuminati Films, Eros International, Krishna D.K. and Raj Nidimoru makes Bollywood again breathe fresh by spoofing on b-town rom com genre pumping new life into this genre with subtle humor and a smart impish sense of fun.

Twining the cliché standard rom com techniques with their smart teasing bleach ‘Happy Ending’ scores high by pasting a constant smile on the face of the audience right from the start till the end happily.

The Story

Raj Nidimoru, Krishna D.K., Sita Menon and Hussain Dalal deliver a light hearted spoof on romcom where they twine the cliché standard rom com techniques with their smart teasing bleach in this story of Yudi (Saif Ali Khan) whose 6 year old fame as a top selling writer suddenly ditches him of his fun, girls and money. The broke writer is also going through a mental block where nothing is working out.

The non believer in commitments in relationships lands up on the laps of a b-town single screen superstar Armaan (Govinda) who in his bid to take over the multiplex audience asks Yudi to write a tried tested but many times trusted romcom.

Boy meets girl - Yudi bumps into Aanchal Reddy( Ileana D’cruz) the current bestselling author of a romcom. The best part is that she doesn,t personally believes in those mushy mushy things on love.

How Yudi, Aanchal get together and how does superstar Armaan gets his blockbuster script finds the crux of the film in this script which oozes with confidence and witty smartness.

What To Look Out For

Fresh, breezy, and amusing, the directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K, hardly offer any dull moment in this captivating comedy on romantic comedies that starts by pasting a constant smile on the face of the audience throughout the film starting with Yudi (Saif) first funny on screen break up with Kareena till the climax.

The writers and the directors complement each other marvelously and in the end are able to add a new dimension to the standard realization that while opposite do attract but you ‘stay’ with the one who has many things in common.

A rom com is predictable and so is ‘Happy Ending’ but what over smarts ‘Happy Ending’ from other rom coms is its capacity to make the audience laugh at it and with it at the makers will.

Hussain Dalal ‘s dialogues never fail to add its witty sparks to the proceedings  with both Saif and Govinda getting equal share of smart one liners.

The movie boost some knock out performances.

Starting with Saif Ali Khan who finds himself in his comfort zone. Effortless, charming as usual as the urban dude always running away from commitment. The stealer however is his Mr. Yogi (his alter ego) in the film. Brilliantly done with impeccable sense of comic timing.

Ileana Dcruz is simple, straight, charming and sweet. Perhaps in ‘Happy Ending’ the lass has given her most natural performance till date. Effortless. Earnest.

Kalki Koechlin is terrific as the obsessed girlfriend of Saif. With endearing mannerisms and snappy comic timings the lass leaves her mark.

Ranvir Shorey is highly entertaining. Playing Saif’s buddy Ranvir has some hilarious scenes in the move.

The cameo by Kareena and Preity Zinta is cool.

Finally.. ‘Happy Ending’ is the re entry of B-town entertainer ‘Govinda’. In one word Govinda is outstanding. His witty discussions with Saif Ali Khan are the major highlights of the film. Simply terrific in playing to the gallery Govinda is on a roll in his role. Complete paisa vasool. Citi bajao act.

Sachin-Jigar’s music goes along with the narrative. Remo D'Souza’s choreography is wonderful. Production values are excellent. Cinematography by Chase Bowman, Yaron Levy and Mahesh Limaye is rich and very eye pleasing. Arindam Ghatak editing is sharp.

What not

The second half stumbles into the known cliche rom com territory and stretches in length. The humour is subtle and mainly ‘class’ appealing. The audience misses Mr. Yogi during the end.

Conclusion: ‘Happy Ending’ is a happy, lovingly smart and witty tease on romantic comedies that rightly demands a ‘commitment’ from its audience to have a ‘dekho’ this weekend at the multiplexes. ‘Happy Watching’.
