Lakshmi Raave Maa Intiki Review

'Lakshmi.. Rave Maa Intiki’ is a kind of film that is characters-based rather than an eventful story.   Sometimes, it seems to hold within it traces of this or that film (the hero himself refers to ‘Ninne Pelladatha’ once) but Nandyala Ravi’s profound dialogues give the output a quality of uniqueness.

As usual, it is love at first sight.  Naga Shourya falls in love with a girl who has been betrothed and who will marry a dog if her father asks her to do.  She can’t relent unless he can convince her father that he is the best suited guy.  On his part ,Shourya sees everything in a positive way and can get along with any and everyone.  Brimming with happiness, he spreads it to others.  Eventually, the girl proves to be a tough nut to crack as she is not ready to be honest to her own feelings.

On the surface, this one sounds like an out-dated idea.  But what puts soul into an otherwise tedious idea is the screenplay and dialogues.

After ‘Oohalu Gusa Gusa Lade’ and ‘Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya’, Shourya gets to do yet another boy-next-door kinda role, a character that exudes innocence, a character that wins over others with wit, a character that can surprise with profound talk.  Complementing him is the character played by Avika Gor, who slips into the role as easily as she did in ‘Uyyala Jampala’.

In a way, Avika Gor was the best choice one could have asked for.  The character makes a curious proposal and to play such kind of a character, an actor with a juvenile aura going for her was needed.   And Avika Gor fits the bill.

This one is more of a semi-conversational film, peppered with intelligent lines.  However, there comes a point in the second half when the goings-on seem to be a stretch and wrongly so.  One must appreciate why the heroine refuses to give a strong rebuttal to the hero and instead accepts to give into his request.  Her behavior smacks of a typical girl who lives in self-denial, who experiences romantic thoughts (because she subconsciously likes the guy) for the first time in her life, and who proposes to do an apparently degenerate thing only because she has been brought up into a confident girl by a disciplinarian father.

This is yet another rom-com where the parents complement the “family-type” character of the film..  Rao Ramesh’s eccentricity may not be interesting but his attitude and outlook mirror the views of the parent-next-door.  Shourya’s rapport with his father (Naresh) and mother (Bhuvaneswari) gives a sense of completeness to his boy-next-door character.  Watch him in the scene where he takes the girl to his sister’s home in a car, almost unable to hide his feelings while driving, even forgetting that he is driving.

The episode involving Rao Ramesh’s old-time love interest should have been dealt more interestingly, but except Sapthagiri, there is nothing new in it.

The audience expects the film to take a certain type of route but instead we are treated to a rather hackneyed one.  There is a thread from the first half which is left without being given a sense of climax.

Comedy is situational and the track involving Vennela Kishore, Nalla Venu and Sathyam Rajesh elicits laughs.

L M Radhakrishna‘s music is good.  Picturization is found wanting, just as the execution in second half.

Verdict:  Witty dialogues that give us a peek in to the mindsets of girls and boys are the flavor of the season and soul of this movie.  Don’t expect a new story and mindblowing performances.
