The metro cities in India are fast becoming a real estate haven, and with some money in hand would you not venture into buying a land or a property? After all we compare land with gold more often; well one sneak peak from this movie will sure give you second thoughts on that. Vettrimaran’s Grassroot film company has produced a movie that showcases the dark side of real estate with some commercial thrills all around.
The story
Harish plays Saravanan a dutiful civil engineer who wants to make it big in construction, and the youngster fits the role quite comfortably. Even though there is not enough scenes out there for him to emote, given the timeline he carves out a neat role. Not far away is Sundar(Achuta Kumar), the venal money lender who spares no hair when it comes to collecting loans. Director Thanukumar sets out the perfect ambience for the story to build up, however gets a little predictable once the intentions of the hero to start his own construction pans out. As the screenplay weaves out, the stage is set for an aspiring civil engineer to pursue his dream of construction only to get tricked by the intermediate broker and a money lender ready to go for the kill. What happens next is to wait and watch out.
What works well
Thanukumar’s choice of script is fresh and something new, for real estate scams have been in the town ever since the boom over 2000’s and he has weaved a story quite amicably. Adding the required thrills and twists, makes the movie watchable enough on the main screen. Harish plays a decent role in the movie; there is a lot in this guy than what meets the eye. As a man in vain, he gives the necessary impact. Mohan Raman as the real estate broker grabs an unexpected role and is the surprise package. Rests of the cast, including Achuta Kumar do their job fair enough. Velraj’s camera work and Jones BGM are two other factors that takes the movie on a different note altogether.
What does not
Although the movie has all the ingredients to break free and relish, it lacks the fitting power. The lead up to the characters introduction and the way the plot spans out, one could easily predict what’s in store.
Why, How and what
- Placement of songs is something questionable, most of the songs looked to be placed by compulsion rather than what the script demands. And an item song for a movie of this sort?
- Anandi as the heroine comes as a letdown; especially the dubbing is way out of line. How was this missed?
- With so much money and life at stake, there could have been room for some acting skills. Would have oozed life to the screenplay.
- Average marketing, the movie will need more than just “Word of mouth” to pull enough movie goers to the theatres.
To conclude might have not been the best out of the lot, but Vettrimaran & Co have still given a decent movie that might get going over the upcoming weeks.
