The Last Supper Movie Review - The Last Supper may not last

Following some engaging tales out there on theatres in the recent months is 'The Last Supper' which promised much  as it had takers for a remake even before its remake. But the movie from a débutante director Vinil Vasu, who had adequate experience in Bollywood fails to offer any convincing narration and in getting us engaged. A disappointing film, the movie may not last long and survive amidst the multitude of films that is coming out every week.

The Last supper tells the story of three friends Alby(Unni Mukundan), Imran(Anu Mohan) and Pearley(Pearle Maaney). While Alby is an adventurer, Imran is a cameraman, and Pearly, a TV Producer. One fine day Pearley suggests an idea about a weird  trip one to Sathaankunnu, where the remnants of a haunted old fort associated with some mysteries is housed. People who has tried to travel to the location with no clear cut roads, has never returned to tell about their hardships.

And the threesome embarks on the journey which will need them to cross seven hills. They bribe the forest officials, manages with the permissions and a map to the estranged place. They also gets a guide named Siripumozhy, who takes them amidst dense jungles to the third mountain. A wild life photographer Karthy also joins them in the middle. The movie then follows the hardships that the three friends endure before they  reach their destiny and about the real intent behind the journey for each, in the gang.

The highlight of the movie is the liberally used wild life shots that gives details of the terrain that the plot unfolds. There are abundant visuals of wild elephants, panthers, snakes and other forest dwellers. The cinematography by Ajayan Vincent also add to the effeectiveness of the movie, in parts. But in the downer side are  very poor graphics of animals and also the comic sequences of the forest dwellers added to the pathetic scripts that hardly offers any thrills even to the protogonists who are confused about their intents. Yes, as with the every recent movies in Mollywood, the enterprising premise is spoiled by a clueless scripts which fails to hold your interest. The final twists that follow one after another just gives you the feeling that you have seen them earlier, even in Mollywood.

In the acting side Unni Mukundan looks lost and fails to bring in the desired feelings whether situations demand. Anu Mohan comes up with a better performance, while Pearle Maaney is appropriate for her role. The others in the castlines are just ok for their roles.

The  two songs in the tale are average. The attempts to frights and thrills are few and faulty. The other technical sides of the movie are also just average at best.

On the whole, this 'Last Supper' is disappointing film. May be you may get gratified for its widllife shots, which you can very well have better in NGC or Discovery channel.

    Rating-4/10
