Yesteryear actress Savithri was one of the most popular actresses during her times ruling the South Indian film industry with nearly 10 to 15 movies of hers releasing every year. She combined and acted with the best names in the industry during the 1950s and 1960s and also produced and directed films.

Now a statue has been unveiled in honour of the evergreen actress in Vijayawada, AP, near the birth place of the legendary actress. The statue has been placed before the Thumalapalli Auditorium at Vijayawada. It was unveiled by yesteryear actress Vani Shree, who after unveiling the statue stated that Savithri will always remain as a role model for actresses.

Savithri gained the title 'Nadigayar Thilagam' in Tamil which is the top slot in the heroines slot making her the unrelinquished queen of the Tamil film industry. Savithri has played lead roles in more than 310 films panning Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
