Aakasham

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

After a gap of five years, Sundardass is returning to his busy life of film making through the new film Aakasham. Following the likes of Kalabhavan Mani and Salim Kumar, who became heroes after landing safe as comedy artists, this time it is Harishree Ashokan who is donning the role of the hero through his film. Ashokan removed his long reared beard to appear as Manoharan in this film who is an automobile mechanic in a Hyundai Showroom.

Manoharan is a representative of the middle class men, who strives to attain the very little ambitions that they have. He is a simple man who lives with his wife Bhanu, two daughters and mother. His life is devoted to the well being of his family who loves him more than any thing.

The life of our protagonist takes a new turn as terrorists set off a bomb at the railway station. Manoharan too reads about the incident from the newspaper, but he finds something special about the caricature made by the police about the possible suspect based on eyewitness reports. The picture that appeared in the newspapers closely resembled Manoharan. People started accusing fingers at him, as they found something mysterious about his activities.

As more and more public and police came up with suspicions, Manoharan also started doubting himself. Was it me who planted the bomb?  Manoharan was starting to become a peculiar type of mental patient. The film revolves around the impact that this had on him and his family.

Harishree Ashokan plays the lead role of Manoharan while Jyorthirmayi plays Bhanu. Unlike his usual comedy roles, Harishree Ashokan is here in a very serious role to play. The director, who started off with promising films like  Sallapam, and Kudamaattam is here  working without a top heavy cast which also includes innocent,  K.P.A.C Lalitha, Saikumar, Mamukoya, Niyaas, Anil Murali, Baby Nayantara, Baby Ria and Bindhu Panikkar.

The film is scripted by T.A.Rasaq .Mohan Sithaara gives music to the songs penned by Rajiv Alunkal for the film. The others in the technical side include Raja Mohammed in editing, Bava in art direction and Saadath in cinematography.

Aakaasham, which was shot in and around Kochi, is in its post production stages.  Produced by K.K. Narayanadas in the banner of Creative Team Productions, the film will grace the theatres this month.
