Ajith, Bhavana win Filmfare awards

The 54th annual Filmfare awards would be distributed on 4 August in Hyderabad. Considered one of the coveted awards by the south Indian film industry, Filmfare awards for the year 2006 was announced recently.

Ajith has been chosen as the best actor for his excellent portrayal in triple roles in Varalaru, while Bhavana has won the award for the best actress for her role in Chithiram Pesuthadi. Veyyil, by Vasantha Balan, was adjudged the best film in Tamil cinema.

Varalaru featured Ajith in triple roles which include a role inspired by a Bharathanatyam dancer with feminine qualities. Directed by K S Ravikumar, the movie produced by NIC Arts Chakravarthy went on to complete a 100-day-run.

Bhavana, the girl from the God's own Country, made her debut in Tamil with Chithiram Pesuthadi. The movie was directed by Mysskin and Bhavana played the role of a girl falling in love with a ruffian played by Naren.

Veyyil brought fame to Tamil cinema, by being screened at the Cannes International Film Festival. Directed by Vasanthabalan and produced by Shankar, the movie featured Bharath, Pasupathy and Bhavana in pivotal roles.

Pasupathy has been chosen the best actor in supporting role for E and best actress in supporting role would be awarded to Saranya for Em Mahan.

A R Rahman was adjudged the best music composer for his tunes in Sillunu Oru Kadhal. The Mozart of Madras had come up half-a-dozen catchy tunes in Sillunu Oru Kadhal which starred Suriya and Jyothika in lead roles.

Gana Ulaganathan as best playback singer for Valameenukkum song and Shreya Ghosal as the best female playback singer for the song Munbe Vaa in Sillunu Oru Kadhal.

The awards would be presented at a grand function in Hyderabad in which who's who of Indian film industry would take part.
