This is what the director had to say: "If anyone criticizes actor Vijay... I just don't accept it. But if anybody dares to criticize Thala Ajith Kumar, I offend them, I oppose them, I can go to any extent... cause Ajith is a man... a man of honesty, a man with simplicity, a man with guts, a man with responsibility, a man who came up on his own belief and hard work, a star who made his own unique place in the hearts of Tamil audience... so please stop the nonsense... he stands as an idol for all aspiring actors... he's not a great actor, not a great dancer, almost had negligible mass hits... but still he stands in a place after Superstar... that is Ajith Kumar.

He further adds, "Unless you are in this film industry you can't analyze his greatness... I witnessed his glory being the closest spectator".
