Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers M K Alagiri will unveil a life-size bronze statue of legendary film actor Sivaji Ganesan in Madurai on October 4, in the presence of Kamal Haasan and a host of stars from the Tamil film industry.

According to Ramkumar, the Nadigar Thilakam’s son, “The wishes of my dad’s fans in the temple city to install a statue has become a reality now. The Union Minister has recently remarked at a function that he was not a fan, but a fanatic of Sivaji.”

Ramkumar said the man behind the installation of the statue was former Chairman, Board of Trustees of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, and Kamala Theatre proprietor V N Chidambaram, who was a close friend of the late actor.

According to Chidambaram, the eight-and-a-half-foot bronze statue to be installed in Madurai would be a different one from the earlier bronze statues of the actor installed in other parts of Tamil Nadu.

“It will have a different mould and strike a different pose. The statue would have Sivaji sporting a gentle look with hands folded back and in the attire that he normally used to attend functions,” he said.
