Popular Kannada film star Ambarish resigned the position of union minister of state for Information and Broadcasting and the MP seat on Wednesday afternoon. In a fax letter dispatched to Prime Minister of India Ambarish expressed his unhappiness over the recent Kaveri Water Tribunal verdict. Ambarish with over 35 years of film career relinquished his position not for the first time. He resigned for MP position once and in 2002 he quit his MP seat on the same Kaveri issue.

With the resignation of Ambarish the big force is added to the protest on the verdict here in Karnataka. Ambarish consulted his best friend Dr.Vishnuvardhana before resignation. What is so unfortunate is that he has been able to occupy the new office after he became union minister on last October 24.

Meanwhile the literary personalities and his fans in Mandya (Ambarish is Mandyadha Gandu) have welcomed this decision of Ambarish.

Ambarish with 200 Kannada films to his credit (the number is next to Dr.Rajkumar) became the member of Lok Sabha in 1998, he was nominated as member in Petroleum and chemicals in 1999, was member of Papers laid on the Table committee, in 13th Lok Sabha election he won the elections, he was member of consultative committee Textile ministry, he won in the 14th Lok Sabha, he was member of Health and Family welfare committee, on 2006 October 24 he was sworn in as Union Minister of State for information and broadcasting.
