The rebel star of Kannada cinema Ambarish with over 200 films to his credit in a span of 39 years in cinema is for the first time donning the role of a 'Don' in Rana Kannada cinema. Ambarish is 'Yama' in 'Katari Veera Sura Sundarangi' in producer Munirathna Naidu film in the direction of Suresh Krissna with co stars Upendra and Ramya. Prior to it he was chief minister of state in 'Swayamkrishi' Kannada cinema.

Ambarish got the rebel image from the first political cinema in Kannada 'Antha' but never gave up the hero role and he was in action image for a long time. He never played the underworld don. In ‘Rana’ he is in natural get up with the international image.

Ambarish role is a guest role but his appearance is seen in many scenes in the film. The shooting for Ambarish portions have been completed and Bhavya former heartthrob who figured in Ambarish films as heroine is the counterpart after decades.

'Rana' starring Pankaj – first outside banner for noted director and producer S Narayan was shot in Tamil Nadu and interiors of Karnataka is slated for 2012 January release says director Srinivasamurthy. This is the independent direction for Srinivasamurthy. Supritha, Archana and Sonia Gowda are heroines in this film. Raja Rathnam is the cameraman.
