Akkineni Nageshwara Rao's mellow voice is a far cry from Amitabh Bacchan's (who has lent his voice for many Bollywood films such as Lagaan, Jodhaa-Akbar, et al) stentorian baritone. His voice would not have suited a normal film. Not Rajanna, which is a mature film set way back more than six decades ago.

You will hear ANR recapitulating the proceedings for our benefit. Since the Nag-starrer is a historical period drama, peppered with many real-life incidents, it surely requires the able services of a narrator. Thus, Vijayendra Prasad has drafted the octogenarian, whose lively and nuanced dialogue delivery in Sri Rama Rajyam took the audience by surprise.

He would not have lent his rare voice to a mediocre project; ANR has made an exception for the sake of his proud son's home production. Rajanna, which is releasing on Dec. 22, is believed to be one of the most substantial films in years.

So, ANR is going to pleasantly surprise us without appearing on the screen. For his old-aged fans, this is one more reason to watch Rajanna.
