After delivering a power-packed and award winning performance in ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara’, check out Anupam Kher’s dwarf act in Shirish Kunder’s ‘Jaan-e-mann’. Anupam Kher is extremely appreciative of the way Kunder had conceived his character ‘Chachu’ in ‘Jaan-e-mann’, who is a happy go lucky suit clad dwarf who is a successful lawyer, friend, philosopher and guide to Salman Khan in the film. But in reality the task of playing a dwarf was quite challenging and pain-staking role for an actor his age.

Anupam Kher maintains that he had to walk, dance and even pee on his knees for 40 days with the only consolation of kneecaps, but the most excruciating part was when he had to take retakes. He also had to reach out to his first aid box every time and his lower back would hurt after every scene. He also reminisces that when Salman had to kneel down and chat with him only for 10 minutes, he would compliment Anupam Kher on his commitment and dedication.

Anupam had played very chameleon-esque characters in the past, but yet he maintains that this character of Chachu was extremely challenging physically and mentally. But Anupam Kher says that notwithstanding the physical pain, he always wanted to evolve as an actor by taking challenging tasks. He also enjoyed a dance sequence with other dwarfs in the film. “It was a unique role and Shirish’s vision spurred me on,” he says.

The chemistry between Salman and ‘Chachu’ is the one to watch out for in ‘Jaan-e-mann’. Kamal Hassan had earlier enacted the role of a dwarf in ‘Appu Raja’. It remains to be seen who dwarfs whom!
