After the mega success of films like SHOOTOUT AT WADALA, which depicted the life of gangster Manya Surve and ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI, portraying the rivalry of Mumbai underworld dons Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim, Bollywood is now set to explore many more such movies depicting the biopic of infamous underworld dons and gangsters.
The latest movie in this race is DADDY starring Arjun Rampal, who will be re-living the role of Mumbai`s notorious underworld don turned politician Arun Gawli fondly called as DADDY by his gang members.

Directed by Gaurav Bavdankar and produced by Mandar Dalvi, DADDAY will portray the rise of local thug Arun Gawli to becoming a MLA. Director Gaurav Bavdankar, speaking about the movie said, "Like underworld don Haji Mastan, Arun Gawli`s life story is packed with emotions, anger and his compassion to the underprivileged section of the society, who crowned him as their Neta."
He added, "The movie will portray how he rose from a petty burglar staying in the chawls of Mumbai to turning into a feared underworld don and building his empire at Dagdi Chawl in Byculla (Mumbai), the official den of Gawli where nobody (Including the police) cannot enter without his permission."
To get into the skin of the character Arjun Rampal has decided to reduced his weight considerable because Gawli is a lean and skinny person but dominates like a lion in Mumbai. Speaking about his preparation for the role Arjun Rampal said, "I would like to meet Mr. Arun Gawli soon and would like to take his advice on what he thinks as that will help me in working hard for the film."
He added, "If my director has shown faith in me to portray such a complex character than it is my duty to explore the character to its hilt. Hence I wish to meet Mr.Gawali and understand him as a person, his personality and everything so that I am able to do justification to the character on the screen."

It may be noted few more movies based on gangsters include Sanjay Gupta`s next, Mumbai Saga, staring John Abraham, who will portray another gangster, who operated in Mumbai in the `80s-`90s. Similarly, Nikhil Dwivedi will be seen playing gangster Abu Salem in a biopic to be directed by Navdeep Singh.
Bollywood is known for making many movies in the past that have been inspired form real-life gangsters like Haji Mastan in DEEWAAR, Dawood Ibrahim in COMPANY, Varada Bhai aka Varadarajan Mudaliar in NAYAKAN, dreaded dacoit Phoolan Devi in BANDIT QUEEN.
