Ayya

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Tamil Comments

Sarath Kumar, though enduring a not-so-good run as his last few films have bitten the dust, is still a force to reckon with. And Hari is always big actor's director.

So when these are coming together for a prestigious banner like Kavithalaya, the expectations are bound to be high. And they sure are. This is Hari's second film for Kavithalaya after the sensational Samy.

Hari too has something to prove his critics as his last two films Arul and Kovil hardly caused any ripples at the box office.

In Ayya, Sarath plays a dual role (father and son, what else), and the story is all about reunion of the two, having been separated due to some misunderstanding in the family.

Father and son double role is pretty lucky for Sarath. Two of his best hits --- Nattamai and Suryavamsam --- had him playing similar roles.

In Ayya, the elder Sarath is clad in a Khadi dhothi and white shirt and is affectionately called in the village as Ayya.

Malayalam actress Nayanathara plays younger Sarath's ladylove. Though she is now known as Chandramukhi girl in the industry, this will be her actual debut in Kollywood.

Director Hari, says, "the entire story revolves around Sarath. Though the movie has been titled Ayya, there is nothing political in it". The movie is set in a rural background, the pace at which the script progresses will engross the audience, he adds.

On Sarath Kumar, he says, "playing father-son roles is a cake-walk for him. He has given his best and no doubt Ayya will be a high point in his career". Prakash Raj is a talented actor who has done his job extremely well. "All credit should go to him for adding life to the character that he has performed".

Bharadwaj's music is another highpoint of the movie, the director adds. The songs are already chart-busters.

A major portion of the movie was shot in Tirunelveli and Nagercoil.

Ayya would be released for Pongal.
