Nandamuri Balakrishna dabbled with the Telugu Desam Party and campaigned for it in the 2009 Assembly elections. However, he kept aloof from directly entering the electoral fray himself. Nevertheless, his political arangetram has been a foregone conclusion and imminent. Finally, Balayya announced that he will contest the polls in the Assembly elections 2014.

The son of NT Rama Rao will contest on a TDP ticket, the party founded by his father. He made this announcement in Anantapur on the sidelines of the star-cricket match held at a stadium here.

The actor never indicated in the past that he will bid farewell to films. Actually, he said as much that he would like to straddle both films and politics. Balayya's contemporary, Megastar Chiranjeevi, entered politics in August 2008 by launching a political party. The Nandamuri scion, expectedly, came into the TDP fold. N Chandrababu Naidu, the party's leader, and Balakrishna share good relations.

It is to be seen what kind of films the actor with immense popularity among the masses will do in the coming years. It is three years to go for the elections.
