Grapevines of late are abuzz that the talented light-eyed beauty Rani Mukherjee has shown her interest for a period film, to be helmed by Tigmanshu Dhulia whose recent release ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ garnered rave reviews.

According to sources, the film is based on Begum Samru from 18th century and about her life journey, starting as a nautch girl eventually becoming the ruler of Sardhana (a principality near Meerut).

Sources revealed that recently Rani and Tigmanshu had a long discussion over the project, following which the actress got quite impressed with the role and gave her nod for the film. It is believed that Rani loves Tigmanshu's style of filmmaking and so wanted to work with him. On the other hand, the directed wanted someone who can hold the film on her own and hence felt that no one other than Rani could carry off the role better.

To tell more about the historical personality, Begum Samru’s name is eminent in history for her influential work in politics and she also headed Mercenary army, inherited from her European husband Walter Reinhardt Sombre.
