Reading up history, we observe that India has reached the Top 5 position at the Oscars only twice in 100 years of cinema with ‘Mother India’ and ‘Lagaan’. Both these films were based on human triumph.

Looking up the current cine scenario, among the contenders to represent India at the Oscars this time, are the three films; ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Ship of Theseus’ and ‘The Lunchbox’.

According to IndiaGlitz sources, the decision between the three films that belong to different genres will be announced by 22nd September. It can be noted that the Oscar committee more than once has said that they prefer films rooted in culture and country's ethos.

‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ is a story of human triumph and how he doesn't lose hope. While it’s an India film at core as it applauds an Indian hero in spirit, it appeals to all universally.

‘Mother India’, ‘Lagaan’ and BMB are also are hugely commercially successful films.

With this view, most film makers believe that this year's choice should be the commercially successful and critically acclaimed movie that touched all hearts, BMB. With about 160 countries fighting the race with one film each, India’s final choice of film being the film based on human triumph, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ stands a better chance to make it in the top 5 list.

When we checked with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on this he said, "I was not aware of this fact. For me whatever the honourable jury decides is acceptable".
