“It is true that the creator in me suffered a jolt due to my entry into politics. It happened like an accident after I met former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran when he was not well. Now I regret the decision,” says K Bhagiyaraj.

The ace filmmaker-actor, who was declared by MGR as his heir in cinema, tested political waters on his own after the matinee idol turned politician passed away. He however came back to film industry after a short stint in politics.

“I was unable to establish myself in Tamil cinema like MGR because he concentrated mainly on acting. But I had to pen a script on my own, direct and produce it besides acting in the lead role. It became a drawback and limitation for me,” he says.

However, the ‘king of screenplay’ is filled with optimism these days. The reason is his forthcoming film ‘Siddu Plus Two First Attempt’, starring his son Santhanu in lead role. “You can find a new Bhagiyaraj in the film,” he says.

Elaborating more, he says, “I am keen to make it big in Tamil cinema again and ‘Siddu…’ will be a nice start to it. It is a youthful script that would cater to the present day audience. Though Santhanu is new to acting, he has delivered his best to the role.”
