16-year-old girl in Georgia, seemingly the perfect friend, daughter and sister anybody could want, committed suicide in May this year. Family and friends were devastated and baffled but her death, but later realized there were warning signs everywhere in the form of blue whale depictions and references.

The Blue Whale is an online suicide challenge that supposedly began in Russia two years ago. The game, spread over 50 days, involves an online curator giving tasks each day; tasks get progressively more dangerous. On the final day, the teen is expected to commit suicide.

A 21-year-old psychology student was arrested in Russia in November in relation to the online game. Investigations are still going on about how the online curators communicate with teens.
