With the release of the much-awaited Sivaji starring Rajnikanth postponed from 31 May to 15 June, several Tamil movies chose to go on a wait and watch mode.

As a result, theatres in Chennai are now witnessing a plethora of English movies fancying their fortunes at the box office. Spiderman - 3, Shrek - 3, The Pirates of the Caribbean - 3 and Jackie Chan's Rob-B-Hood are vying for top honors against one another now. Sony Pictures Spiderman - 3, released a couple of weeks ago, is collecting good revenue.

Interestingly the week saw Praksh Raj's Mozhi and director Ameer's Paruthiveeran successfully completing a 100-day run. The former was a touchy tale about a deaf and dumb girl narrated in a hilarious manner by director Radhamohan. The latter by Ameer was an emotional saga. Suriya's sibling Karthi, who made his debut with Paruthiveeran, won him accolades.

Among the earlier releases Vijay starrer Pokkiri still manages to draw good audience. The movie has crossed over 140 days and still going strong.

Also drawing decent crowd this summer is Jeevan's Naan Avan Illai, which is a remake of K Balachander's yesteryear classic titled the same. Starring Sneha, Namitha, Malavika, Jyothirmayi and Keerthi Chawla, Naan Avan Ilai, directed by Selvah, is attracting youngsters to theatres. Venkat Prabhu's maiden directorial venture Chennai 600028 has won rave reviews and is collecting good revenues.

After Kokki, Karan's Karuppasamy Kuthagaitharar featuring him in the lead role hit the screens a couple of weeks back. The movie which revolves around Madurai, a pet theme of Tamil cinema, has been garnering good revenue especially in the rural areas.

Vikranth's Ninaithu Ninaithu Parthen, released by Pyramid Saimira, opened well but running into second week, the movie seems to have lost its steam. The flick was about a Tamil youth falling in love with a Pakistani girl.

Among the releases from Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan's Cheeni Kum which has musical score by Ilayaraja is putting up a decent show.

Wait still continues on the release of movies including Kireedom starring Ajith and Vikram's Bheema.
