What it is?

Debut director Sanjivan Lal with 'Bubble Gum' attempts to present one of the most memorable and favourite phase of a person - the teenage - in completely new angle with classic twist. As the tagline aptly says - "Bachpan Ke Woh UNFORGETTABLE Din". Set against the Holi holidays in the early eighties, 'Bubble Gum' promises to be a coming-of-an-age story set in a small industrial town of Jamshedpur in India. "One beautiful neighbor...One rival in love.... Two Paranoid parents..It's hard to be 14!" - that's what the movie is all about.

Introducing fresh set of faces, the film stars Sohail Lakhani, Delzad Hiravali, Apoorva Arora, Suraj Singh as the lead teenagers. They are supported by talented actors like Sachin Kheddekar, Tanvi Azmi, Ganesh Yadav, Sita Singh and Ravi Khanvilkar. Interestingly, the movie also features Mukesh Bhatt, Masud Akhtar, Ashima Bhatt and Kamini Khanna in cameo roles.

'Bubble Gum' is produced by Sushma Kaul, under the banner Koncept Infotenment Pvt. Ltd. The Story, Script and Dialogues are also written by Sanjivan. The music is done by Hanif Shaikh (of 'Kismet Konnection', 'Paathshala' fame) and Bapi Tutul (of 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Sarkar Raj' fame).

The Storyline

Vedant is 14. He has been growing up alone like a single child because his elder brother Vidur, 16, is deaf and studying far away from home in a boarding school for children like him. For the parents - Mukund and Sudha, Vidur becomes the focus of their concern and their affection. Vedant is taken for granted on the account of being 'normal'. Vedant begins resenting this situation.

Life for Vedant suddenly looks up when a pretty girl Jenny, also 14, moves in the neighborhood and he begins wooing her secretly. To his horror, competition starts brewing over her with a 15 year old neighboring dude Ratan. He once again feels threatened as Ratan refuses to leave the girl alone for him. They end up challenging each other. To add more complications, Vedant's brother Vidur returns home for his first holi holidays in six years. In their zest to compensate for 6 years in hostel, parents Mukund and Sudha order Vedant to spend all his time only with Vidur and forget his friends for a while.

Vedant is not willing to lose the girl and hence begin open show of anger and insecurity. Vedant fights back his brother, his parents, his rival only to later discover the truth about himself, his brother, his parents and above all what love and family relationship means!

It is coming-of-age not only for Vedant who discovers why his brother is special but also his parents - Mukund and Sudha who realize how their concern and effort was definitely helping their handicap son integrate well into the mainstream of life but at the same time was isolating the otherwise normal son Vedant towards becoming an emotional handicap!

With all its ups and downs and the twist and turns, the family eventually learns to live better ensuring that their relationship doesn't go bust like Bubble Gum....
