Catherine Tresa Interview

Catherine Tresa has three releases in the coming weeks. If 'Gautham Nanda' is coming on July 28th, on August 11th, 'Nene Raju-Nene Mantri' (where she is playing a full-fledged role) and 'Jaya Janaki Nayaka' (wherein she is doing a special song) will happen.

In this exclusive chat with IndiaGlitz, she talks about what makes 'Gautham Nanda' special, Gopichand's style makeover, why she doesn't want to do special songs in future, and more.

What thoughts are crossing your mind before the release of 'GN'?

I am eagerly looking forward to the release of 'Gautham Nanda'. I am waiting for the audience's response. It's a special film. The script is something I liked the most. The story is unique. I am sure the audiences are going to like it one hundred per cent.

The universal message that the film conveys has been narrated within the commercial format. It's entertaining and everybody can understand the essence.

'GN' has a very relevant point and that's what makes it all the more fantastic. How the hero understands his own self is what it's about. It's thought-provoking and will make the audience reflect on the theme. It's not preachy, though. It's fun; there are song and dance.

Do you think the youngsters out there are going to follow the message?

I think people do try to follow them. I am an example. I belong to the new generation and like the theme a lot. So, I think others too are going to love it. The film is youthful and stylish.

How was it working with Gopichand?

Gopichand is looking brand new. When I first met him, I was excited to see him in the new look. He apparently tested many variations of hairdo, beard, and glasses. As a person, he is very calm and quiet, but we did speak a lot. We got along very well. When he is giving the shot, one sees a lot of energy in him. After that, he is quiet. He is also a superb driver.

You too are looking more beautiful than in any other film of yours. Isn't it?

Whatever I do, I give my 100 per cent to it. I try to do full justice to the task at hand. In the case of this film, director Sampath Nandi's vision was very clear. And it's my job to help him in translating his vision on to the celluloid by getting my performance right.

Sampath clearly knew why he wanted to do the film, and why he was doing this particular story. Whatever he narrated, the output he ensured was totally intact. The impact of the narration is felt totally on the screen. He has got an eye for the detail.

And Thaman's music should go a long way in helping the film. Isn't it?

Thaman's music is haunting and soulful, especially the song 'Bole Ram'. It's very melodious. The credit goes to Vrinda master, cinematographer Soundar Rajan and the whole team. Gopichand's intro song ('Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara') is awesome in terms of both audio and visuals.

How was it working with Hansika? Who is the first heroine of the movie?

Hansika is playing a character named Spoorthi, who is sort of deglamorous. There are no combination scenes involving us but for the climax episode. I liked it working with her. She is a bundle of energy. She is also talkative. She is opposite of what I am. Without any makeup, she is looking refreshing in the movie.

I don't subscribe to the idea of a first and second heroine. I go by if a role is strong.

I choose a film only if my character has got importance. My character should have some weight. I shouldn't be someone who just comes and goes. That's one of the criteria in both Telugu and Tamil.

Why have you decided not to do special songs in future?

I did the special song in 'Jaya Janaki Nayaka' for Boyapati garu. I like dancing a lot, but I would like to do it as a part of a film and not as a special number. I did the song in 'JJN' as Boyapati garu said that only I should do it. He asked me to listen to the song first. When I listened to it, I liked it. I trust him. He is really cool and nice. But I am not looking forward to doing special songs in future.

You are perceived to be averse to publicity. What is the reason?

I give interviews or talk only if I have something to say. I can't be talking trivia! It's not at all like I am away from promotions. It's my job to promote a film I have done.

What is your opinion about the drug scandal that is seeing some Tollywood folks being interrogated?

I don't really know the latest updates. I have only heard that something is going on. I want to say two things. Everyone has their own free will and choice. I am not judging anybody. My opinion is that drugs are strictly a waste of life and time.

You are playing a powerful role in 'Nene Raju-Nene Mantri'. Tell us about that.

I don't want to talk about the film as my director is yet to talk about it. He should do it first.
