Kaun Nach Di - Jazzy B

IndiaGlitz   [Friday, May 25, 2007]

It's a surprise to see the latest offering by Jazzy B which is nothing but a single titled 'Kaun Nach Di'. To compensate for the lack of any other track, there are as many as 5 different versions of 'Kaun Nach Di'. Pinda Dhaliwal writes the song while Ravi Bal composes.

Immensely catchy from the word GO, the opening version of 'Kaun Nach Di' which appears in 'Urbanology Mix' rocks in the very first hearing. A number with a hardcore Punjabi flavor, it has been designed in such a manner that even those who are completely unaware of the language would be able to enjoy hearing it. Reason being sheer rhythm, pace and beats which makes 'Kaun Nach Di' a dance number that has enough ammunition to be played on in discs, clubs and household celebration. A chartbuster material!

Along with some sample extracts from the Mac Sauce album, the 'Streetology Mix' is the next to come which takes a slightly different route by changing the manner in which it is orchestrated. The beats and rhythm are still prominent here though the mood becomes a little more 'desi' in flavor rather than being truly underground as the 'Urbanology Mix'. There is ample rap'n'reggae added on as well to add on this version into the list of dance mix tracks.

As expected, 'Sada Desi Mix' marks an arrival of some authentic 'desi' flavor ito 'Kaun Nach Di'. From 'Urbanology Mix' to 'Sada Desi Mix', there is a gradual change in mood and by the time this version comes on, it is time to hit the streets with the 'dhols' all around. Unadulterated sans any Western sound, this version is truly 'desi' and meant for the heartland of North India.

After a stint on the streets, it is time to return to the flashing lights of an underground pub as soon as 'Sada Kar Mix' arrives next. Haunting in appeal with an overall dark feel to the sound, this version has a consistent array of beats accompanying it throughout which doesn't leave a moment aside for any break. With a slight retro touch to it, this version stands out in the crowd.

Surprise surprise! In a setting like this, it is indeed a change to hear the sound of a 'sarangi' kick starting the proceedings. This is what happens when the 'Jazzy Bounce Mix' comes next as it fuses Western sound with that of Indian classical and only adds on to the different flavors that this Jazzy B album had to offer.

Concept of singles is still to catch up in India. Though Euphoria has tried it once while Karan Johar too kick started the campaign of K3G with the title song as the first single to arrive on stands, the trend is still trying to find its way into the Indian music market. On these grounds, Jazzy B has tried to do something different with 'Kaun Nach Di' and given his fans as many as 5 different versions of the song to pick and choose from. Which one is yours?
