Raula Pai Gaya - Mehendi

IndiaGlitz   [Wednesday, July 11, 2007]

A Daler Mehendi album is special. So what if it has been ages since he last delivered a blockbuster album! He still makes news as one anticipates each and every new album of his. 'Raula Pai Gaya' is one such effort that claims that 'The King Is Back'. Is that really truly? Well, let's find it out.

There is a surprise in store as at the very beginning of the album comes 'Namoh Namoh', a devotional track. Nevertheless, instead of turning out to be a conventional devotional track that is slow and subtle and is mainly centered on appreciation of the almighty, 'Namoh Namoh' is different as it takes a passionate route with Mehendi going full throttle with good (and unconventional) lyrics to boost. In addition, the arrangements follow a filmy route as one wonders if a track like this could have been used for a mainstream Hindi film?

Soon to come is the much awaited title song 'Raula Pai Gaya' that gets into fifth gear from 0 to 30 seconds! A sure fire hit, it is perhaps after years that one is so confident of Mehendi having hit the bull's eye. Boasting of a speedy rhythm, catchy lyrics and truly free spirited rendition by Mehendi, 'Raula Pai Gaya' gets its brownie points due to some amazing choreography by Ganesh Acharya. With everything going in the track's favor, this one is a sure fire hit!

'Koi Dheere Dheere' which follows next is fairly entertaining yet again as the music is just right for Daler Mehendi to show his prowess while singing such full-on-energy tracks. Beats are prominent once again in this Punjabi track that has fair dose of Western arrangements to boast and doesn't do bad in that department at all.

A song with a strong 'sufi' base, 'Dholna' is a kind of track that requires a mature singer at the helm. This is the place where Mehendi proves how men are different from boys and shows his class. He sings the song well in a full throated manner while his arranger Babloo Mahender along with Rafiuddin Sabri, who is behind the tabla, do extremely well to create a track that has a haunting appeal.

For the first time ever there comes a song that follows a truly mix-masala mode while especially catering to the Maharashtrian belt. 'Gora Gora Badan' is completely filmy in appeal and reminds of the massy numbers that were composed in late 80s/early 90s. This is the kind of song that turns out to be a different ball game altogether if supported by racy choreography. On those ground the song does have a good potential even as it comes dangerously close to 'Dekha Jo Tujhe Yaar' [Apna Sapna Money Money] at places!

Yet another massy number arrives in the form of 'Kudi Chahiye' which is a weaker effort when compared to the songs preceding it. Though one is fine with ignoring average lyrics that stay on from start to finish, it is an average tune that makes you look for something better in the offering. Yet again, it is a number that has a potential for some eye catchy choreography to be built around it, hence don't be surprised if you see a video of the song soon.

'Kachi Tutt Gayi' is the kind of number that one had been waiting to explode for a long time now. After 'Raula Pai Gaya', this is the number which has a sure fire hit written all over it, if promoted well. A racy track that gets your entire body in motion within first one minute of it being played, 'Kachi Tutt Gayi' doesn't give you any breather to think about anything else but to dance along with the beats.

When a song comes with lyrics like 'Wanna Marry You', you know that it is going to be time for yet another peppy outing. That's exactly the case as one can sense a filmy surrounding when a song like this is played. An innocent-n-
