Junoon - Abhijeet Sawant

IndiaGlitz   [Thursday, July 26, 2007]

Abhijeet Sawant. The man needs no introduction. After his super-successful debut album 'Aapka Abhijeet', he is back in his much smarter and sexy avtar with 'Junoon'. With an overall look and personality going through a transformation in a big way, what is also visible is the confidence level that seems to have been upped by a large extent over the months gone by. This is why when one looks at the music video of the title song 'Junoon', one has bigger expectations from the rest of the album too.

Opening song 'Junoon' begins on an unconventional note as Abhijeet kick starts the proceedings with a classical aalaap. Still, you know that there would be a surprise in store as somewhere in the background you can hear the strings of guitar followed by high bass beats that set the stage for Abhijeet to get into a sufi-rock mode.

With Amit Trivedi at the helm of composition and Anusha writing the lyrics, 'Junoon' turns out to be a kind of song where it is hard to believe that it is a one-album old boy behind the mike. Abhijeet modulates his voice in a big way and the final effect is such that it turns out to be one great inclusion for your lounge collection.

With superb arrangements to boast, 'Junoon' is a number that comes with great range, something which is enhanced further in 'The Dance Mix' version by DJ Akbar Sami. When Sami is at the hot seat, one expects nothing but the best. Well, the expectations are met in totality as the rocking beats make sure that there would be a dazzling effect at the dance floor.

Amit Trivedi and Anusha pair up as a composer/lyricist once again for 'Dhoondein' where Abhijeet gives a much westernized 'aalaap' to bring on the song. It is quite apparent that Abhijeet has worked hard to bring on the range to his voice since with 'Dhoondein' he scales a different height. In fact one is sure that when the music video of this song would be out, it would be an instant eye catcher.

An entertaining number which loves smoothly with constant beats accompanying Abhijeet's voice, it is the rhythm along with the lyrics 'Dhoondein Tujhko' that is the USP of the song. A chartbuster in the making, the song also appears in 'The Club Mix' version by Jatin Sharma. The kind of dance floor arrangements that mark an opening for this version set the base clear for 'Dhoondein' to continue spreading it's charm. While 'Junoon' made you relax in the lounge, 'Dhoondein' is a kind of number that makes you root for Emraan Hashmi on the screen!

Mithoon and Sayeed Quadri, the pair that has now given around a dozen hits already, are roped in as guest composer and lyricist respectively for creating 'Ek Shaqs'. Now this is a kind of number where for a change instead of looking at it critically from the review point of view, you want to relax, keep your laptop away and just enjoy the beauty of the song. An excellent song composed for a situation where a man is remembering the one whom he loved and cared for most, 'Ek Shaqs' is a soft number that is in the same mould as 'Beete Lamhein' [The Train].

While the comparison just ends from the genre point of view, what doesn't end is one's appreciation for Abhijeet who seems to be growing with each of the tracks in the album. While one would have thought that 'Junoon' could be the best song of the album, 'Dhoondein' and now 'Ek Shaqs' makes one greedy towards expecting firworks from the remaining 5 tracks.

Composer Jatin Sharma comes together with lyricist Vikram Chaudhary for 'Mahi Mahi Mahiya'. With lyrics like these, one expects a foot tapping celebration number. With Abhijeet's voice padded with a sonic effect, 'Mahi Mahi' has an elect
