Hits Of M.M.Kreem

IndiaGlitz   [Tuesday, December 04, 2007]

He is one of the most underrated music composers around, thanks largely to his refusal to orchestrate media-hype and work on his music instead. M.M.Kreem has composed three of the best music scores of the millennium in Sur, Jism and Paheli and has other triumphs like Criminal, Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin and Rog to his credit.

His compositions in Hindi films are noted for great melodies, superb singing, skilled orchestration and because of his association with names like Mahesh Bhatt, Tanuja Chandra and Amol Palekar with terrific lyrics as well.

Coming to this compilation, obviously Saregama does not have the rights to the complete crème-de-la-Kreem, but it takes up the lot it does have and presents such a scintillating bouquet that it would be Kreem-inal not to add it to your collection!

Check the evergreen “Tum mile dil khile” (Sanu-Alka) from Criminal, as fresh and haunting today as it was a full 12 years ago. Added here is the less-celebrated beauty from the same film, “Janu janu janu” also by the same two singers.

Move on to the remarkable title music of the dubbed Miya Biwi Aur Saali and Alka Yagnik’s “Gali mein aaj chand nikla” (Zakham) and then to contemporary pastures like Rog (“Gujar na jaaye” by KK and Shreya and “Khubsoorat” by Udit), the masterpiece Jism with the two Shreya lovelies, “Chalo tumko lekar chale” and “Jadoo hai nasha hai” and of course Kreem’s own evocatively-rendered “Awarapan”.

The compilation ends with two songs from the 2007 Dhokha, Kreem’s own “Anjana” and Rafaqat Ali Khan’s title-track.

Well, grab the album. That’s the verdict.
