Yash Raj started this unethical trend with ETT now it continues even the said perfectionist Aamir who stands for equal rights and social causes in various television programmers and other issues finds himself and his most awaited 'P.K.' with Raju Hirani under scanner for arm twisting and using their clout asking single screen and multiplex owners to block their screens for P.K. for two weeks, from December 19 to January 1 forcing 'Bombay Velvet' to preponed its Christmas release to November 28.
According to reports the producers of P.K. has asked for an uninterrupted two week run from the exhibitors and the exhibitors lobby where worried of the possible clash between 'P.K.' and 'Bombay Velvet' when the latter gets released during the Christmas season in December. The clash is averted as Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' starring Ranbir and Anushka Sharma has announced its release on November 28.
But the cause of concern is the decision is taken due to the arm-twisting techniques of 'P.K.' producers. No matter what they will say now and pose as brothers. The Diwali of 13th November 2012 will be remembered for two reasons. One - Yash Chopra released his last love on screen 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. Two - The unhealthy, manipulative and unethical trend started with 'Son of Sardar' Vs 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' (Nov. 2012). This was followed by 'Talaash' Vs 'Khiladi 786' (Jan. 2013), 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobaara' Vs 'Chennai Express' (Aug. 2013) and now this 'P.K.' v/s 'Bombay Velvet'. Though the release of 'Bombay Velvet' is is shifted to November 28 but it's the effect of the armtwisting and that is sad news.
The only silver lining is this time Fox Star showed maturity and bogged down to avoid the clash in the interest of the industry... but still the arm twist has happened.
The earlier clash happened between movies starring senior superstars - SRK, Ajay Devgn, Aamir, and Akshay. Today the battle for supremacy at the Box Office has gown low to unethical grounds where a star like Aamir who has completed twenty five years in the industry finds his producers manipulate and monopolize screens for maximum shares forcing the starrer of a popular heartthrob like Ranbir who has completed seven years in the industry shift their release date..
Gone are the days when there used to be multiple release and nobody had any objection. For example in October 18 1974 four films got released 'Roti Kapada Aur Makaan' (Manoj Kumar, Amitabh, Shashi Kapoor), 'Roti' (Rajesh Khanna, Mumtaz), 'Benaam' (Amitabh, Moushumi Chatterjee) - and all did well, there were no multiplexes and there us to be around 12000 single screens..
