Today 5th August 1994 Rajshri Productions on screen adage on family, love, relationships, values and traditions got released and the rest is history. It’s being twenty years to the b-town family classic starring Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Behl and Renuka Shahane produced by Rajshri productions written and directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya,’HAHK’ has proved to be game changer in many ways.

Released with just 26 prints in total the movie was premiered at Liberty Cinema in southern Mumbai and also was shown at the Regal and Eros theaters. The initial reports from the industry however was not encouraging but the audience gave their heart to this remake of Rajshri’s own 1982 hit ‘Nadiya ke Paar’ starring Sachin in lead. Having tremendous repeat value echoing the goodness of Indian customs and traditions ‘HAHK’ changed the definition of ‘BLOCKBUSTER’ in Bollywood.

Earlier a bollywood movie raking an all India share of 10 crore was regarded as a blockbuster but after Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! the figure changed to 20 crore. (HAHK gross in 1994).

Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! won five Filmfare Awards as well as the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. It made a lasting impact on wedding celebrations in India, which often include songs and games from the film.

Lata Mangeshkar, who sang more than 10 songs in the movie, had long retired from accepting awards, but the public demand for the song "Didi Tera Devar Deewana" was such that she received the Filmfare Special Award that year.

It won’t be wrong to say that HAHK prepared the ground for B-town’s take off on family, traditions and NRI’s which got cashed heavily by DDLJ later after a year in addition HAHK got the family legs back to theaters by 40% in its run.

A turning point in Karan Johar’s life who says, "After seeing Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! I realized Indian cinema is about values, tradition, subtlety, romance. There is so much soul in it. I decided to go ahead and be a filmmaker only after watching this film."

After twenty years post ‘HAHK’ an Indian wedding and Madhuri Dixit Nene’s public appearance is incomplete without the dash of ‘Didi Tera Dewar Deewana’ flash.

Kudos to Rajshri for giving Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.. it’s still playing at an Indian wedding somewhere and in cinegoers heart everywhere..
