Zinda - Sanjay Gupta gets inspired again?
IndiaGitz [Wednesday, November 02, 2005]

If there is one director in Bollywood who truly gets inspired from Hollywood flicks rather than blatantly copying them, then it has to be Sanjay Gupta.

An accomplished technician and storyteller, no doubt he always has a source behind his movies but the fact is that he always tones it accordingly to suit Indian taste, sense and sensibilities.

His 'Kaante' was inspired by 'Reservoir Dogs' while 'Musafir' was a take on 'U-Turn' but never once did a viewer feel that he has copied the movie frame by frame.

Now going by the promos of his upcoming Zinda [Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham], it appears that it too has taken its inspiration from a Korean film 'Old Boy' directed by Park Chanwook. The movie is not too old and just recently won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes 2004.

Theme of both the movies is identical - a man who has been locked up in isolation for 15 years without a reason being cited and then set free. Now he has just 4 days to find the reason behind him being kept captive!

Never mind Mr. Gupta, as long as you continue to serve slick products, which is your forte, we don't mind watching your movies - even if they are inspired/remakes!
