The director’s cut
Writer- Director Kamal D. Nathani flagged off his cinematic career as an assistant to Gul Anand (‘Chashme Baddoor’, ‘Jalwa’) and presently boasts of a repertoire spanning over 300 ad-films and several award-bagging tele-serials. Music has been his forte and Nathani’s keen sense as a writer has helped in evolving his own style as an ad filmmaker, television serial and feature film director.
His debut film ‘The Hope’ centered on peace, survival, hope and the value of human life has been lauded at several international film festivals. The film was screened for the National awards in 2005 and at Emden, Germany for the Berhnad Wicky award.
‘The Times of India’ lavished Nathani with high praise for ‘The Hope’ stating, “It's a story that places Nathani in the league of several other directors like Gulzar (‘Maachis’), Khalid Mohamed (‘Fiza’), Mani Ratnam (‘Dil Se’), Vidhu Vinod Chopra (‘Mission Kashmir’) and Santosh Sivan (‘The Terrorist’), who have been directly or indirectly touched by the Kashmir issue, struggled with it and have used the medium of cinema to portray either the reality as it exists or create a debate over the prolonged issue of peace having gone to pieces.” Nathani’s ‘With Luv... Tumhara’ highlights a young girl’s dilemma in expressing her love and hiding the pain in her tumultuous life. The writer-director demonstrates with finesse how the hand of Destiny, need, longing and desire can alter human equations dramatically.
