Last couple of years has seen bhojpuri films making a big splash in the world of cinema.
Punjabi films have always been there but off late it too is showing a splurge with mega budgets, big releases, far reaching promotion and number of big names cropping up in back to back releases. This is quite apparent when one sees three big Punjabi films releasing close to each other. They are 'Dil Apna Punjabi', 'Waris Shah' and 'Mannat'.
'Dil Apna Punjabi' has just released alongside 'Lagey Raho Munnabhai' on September 1 and has been doing quite well. Starring Harbhajan Mann and Neeru Bajwas in the lead, it is directed by numero uno director of Punjabi films - Manmohan Singh. The film also stars Mahek Chahal and has music by Sukshinder Shinda.
Most popular actor-singer from Punjab, Gurdas Mann, would be coming together with Juhi Chawla again after 'Shaheed-e-Mohabbat' in 'Waris Shah- Ishq Da Waris', a film that has been made on the life of Waris Shah, who is considered to be 18th century legend of Punjabi poetry. Directed by Manoj Punj, the film has been written by Gurdas Mann while the music has been composed by Jaidev Kumar.
The third big release of the season is 'Mannat', a BAG Films production, which stars Jimmy Shergill and Kuljit Randhawa [of Kareena Kareena fame]. Directed by Gurbir S Grewal, this love story has music by Jaidev Kumar & Shafqat Ali.
