Amongst all the talks about Indian actors going abroad and fetching offers for Hollywood, Visha Bhardwaj has silently shot for a Hollywood film, albeit a small portion of it.
He has done this for none other than Francis Ford Coppola, legendary maker of the 'GODFATHER' series. He is currently making a film called "Youth Without Youth', which is a pre-WW II drama where a life-changing incident turns a professor into a fugitive. The film required certain portions to be shot in India and since he was unable to fly down, Coppola outsourced the work to 'Maqbool' and 'Omkara' director Vishal Bhardwaj.
Bharadwaj, along with his two assistant directors Poonam and Vikas Mehta, shot the scenes in Mumbai from September 6 to 8. As per media reports, it was a workshop conducted by Mira Nair in Kampala that got Vishal this opportunity. Vishal was attending it there when he got in touch with Mathew Robbins, a Hollywood writer, who has worked closely with George Lucas and Coppola.
When Coppola told Robbins that a small portion of his latest film required some shooting in India, Bharadwaj’s name propped up. This is where it all began and Vishal was actually amazed to see an email from Coppola himself which asked him if he could work on the project! In fact Vishal was overwhelmed when he was asked by Coppola about the remuneration, to which he just responded by saying that his remuneration was working for him!
While Vishal is still excited about having lived a dream by assisting Coppola for a film, he has now also sent the DVDs of his films to the great for him to know more about his work!
