Steven Speilberg calls it the finest films he has seen in the last five years. The worldwide Box Office collections are extremely encouraging. And yes, it’s going to the Oscars. We are talking about Deepa Mehta’s ‘Water’ starring John Abraham and Lisa Ray which is Canada’s official entry to this year’s Oscar Awards in the Foreign Film Category.

Producer-Director Ravi Chopra is rightly jubilant as he is distributing ‘Water’ in India. It seems expatriate Indian women directors continue to shine. Gurinder Chaddha with ‘Bend It Like Beckham’, Mira Nair with ‘Monsoon Wedding’ and ‘Salaam Bombay’ and Deepa Mehta with ‘Water’, a film that almost never got made.
