For some film makers cinema is glamor. For some film makers, cinema is art. For some it is passion while for some it is a continued learning. Young Onir may well trust himself to be a follower of cinema belonging to the last category. Yes, there is passion in him for film making but along with it he wants to bring certain aesthetics in the way films are made, told and accepted by a large audience!
To enrich himself about the happenings in the world of art, he recently attended NATIONAL SEMINAR on Cultural Practice and Discourses of the 'Minor'. Facilitated by the department of art History and Aesthetics, faculty of Fine Arts, MS University of Baroda, Vadodara, he was in the elite company of scholars from different departments of art/history/painting/sculpting/literature etc. in this seminar.
It was quite an exciting time for Onir to be a part of a wider art discourse since he got an opportunity to interact with artists from other spheres of art, students and critics about his work.
On quizzed about this experience, he said, "Very often as a director, at the end of the film, I feel like a very lonely man. The film and me as a person becomes two different things. This is where discourses like this help me to reconnect, look at ones own work, evaluate myself and identify scope for growth."
So is he planning to broaden his horizon further? "Yes, now I am even more hungry and am looking forward to attending the conference on 'Queer Literature and Cinema : The Canadian and Indian Experience' facilitated by Department of English, University of Pune which takes place from February 19-21, 2007".
