Son of veteran director Mahendran, John made his debut wielding the megaphone for Vijay starrer Sachin. Though the commercial entertainer did not make it big, John did not lose heart.

He in the company of Nanda took a serious issue for their next film. They completed a movie titled Aanivaer, which dealt about the ethnic issue in the neighboring Sri Lanka. The movie has won critical acclaims in all the European countries where it was screened. Now for its release in Tamil Nadu, John is waiting to censor the film.

Meanwhile, John is ready to commence his next project. It has been titled Urumi. According to John, "It's an instrument that reflects our culture and adds pep to a song. The movie is to be produced by a big banner and would star a popular actor".
