It's EK THA BACHPAN for SUMMER 2007 director
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, May 29, 2008]

Cell18 has produced a show called 'Through the Looking Glass' which is aired on CNBC TV18. The show was launched with a vision to bring forth documentaries on television. This time the benchmark show is back with a fresh series of short films and documentaries followed by an interview with the film-makers.

'Through the Looking Glass' is conceptualized by  Zubin Driver, Head, Cell18 and features documentaries and short films from around the world with a special focus on students. It is a creative platform for filmmakers and a great way for them to reach mass audiences. Tanvir Gill, who also hosts market band shows like Your Stocks and Mid Cap Radar on CNBC TV 18, will now host this show.

Ek tha Bachpan is one such documentary, which will kick start the return of the show. The documentary is directed by Suhail Tatari who will soon be making his big screen debut with SUMMER 2007.

It is a documentary based on the injustice of the Juvenile Justice System of our country. Ek tha Bachpan takes you through the unfair series of events that many street kids go through once they are picked up by the cops for no apparent reason. Natural performances by Raj Bhansali, Pushpendra Sain and Amin who play Guddu. Pratap and Babloo respectively in the film, make this documentary truly heart wrenching.

Suhail Tatari, the director of this docu-drama has treated the film in a very believable manner. From depicting the insensitive cops to showing the plight of the children who are tortured in the observation homes, the documentary leaves an impact on the viewer. It throws light on how these children are taken in sometimes for crimes that they have committed and sometimes just because the police needs to reach a certain number of 'criminals' arrested. Ek tha Bachpan brings out the incompetence of the Juvenile Justice system and the social workers that claim to fight for the innocent little ones behind the bars.

The documentary will be on air on 7th June, 3pm on CNBC TV18.
