IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, June 04, 2008]

The man who emotes a plethora of passionate human expressions with his legendary voice celebrates his birthday today.

When Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubramaniam aka S P Balasubramaniam started off his singing career, bigwigs of the then South Indian film industry felt that the young S P Balasubramaniam had the talent and potential to go a very long way.

The legendary singer has lent his voice for three generations of actors and is still going very strong. He holds the Guinness record for most number of songs by anybody. More than 39,000 songs in all.

His association with music maestro Ilayaraja in the eighties created waves and went on to become classics loved by millions. S P Balasubramaniam 's incredible vocal range, deep rich voice, and mastery of style, technique and control is unmatched.

S P Balasubramaniam virtually monopolized playback singing for more than 30 years in the Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema. No Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan movie was complete without S P Balasubramaniam all through the eighties and early nineties. Rajinikanth has the trend of opening big in a movie with spectacular songs. It has always been customary to have S P Balasubramaniam's voice for it. The combination of Ilayaraja, actor Mohan and S P Balasubramaniam can very well be called immaculate golden days for millions of Tamil music fans.

A praiseworthy fact is that S P Balasubramaniam has lent his voice for three generations and still is going strong. MGR, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith and many young and upcoming heroes have been blessed with S P Balasubramaniam’s voice for their song sequences.

When S P Balasubramaniam lent his voice for the songs in Salman Khan movies such ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’, he had become a household name all over India.
