Akshay stays true to the given word
IndiaGlitz [Monday, August 04, 2008]

No other Bollywood leading man may have perhaps looked as convincing as a Punjabi as Akshay Kumar looks in his new film 'Sing Is King'.

But then no other character of a hero in the Tinsel Town has ever appeared as a Sardar complete with the turban before.

This may have made him a loved and dear one for the Punjabis and the film upon its release might get the biggest opening in Punjab.

The Khiladi had long back itself made it known that he has a soft corner for the Punjabi culture.

Now he has done a noble deed standing out of the confines of celluloid worth appreciating as well as emulating.

He has started giving back the love shown by the Punjabis by deciding to build a school in a village which badly needed one.

Just like the countless government run schools all over India which have no proper infrastructure and facilities, a school in a village called Ranjitpura on the outskirts of Chandigarh faced the same pathetic plight.

A lot of scenes of the film 'Namestey London' was shot in this village and Akshay Kumar and director/producer Vipul Shah noticed that most of the kids were working in the fields at an age when they should be getting educated.

When enquired, Akshay came to know that it is because of the limping condition of the only school there which forced the kids to stay away from education as they had no other option.

The villagers of Ranjitpura were very helpful to the entire unit when the shooting was going on and so in return to their affection, Akshay gave the promise of building a school with full facilities.

He held discussions with the village elders and the concerned authorities to know about the formalities to go ahead with the project.

All the ground work has been cleared and as soon as the film star is done with the promotion work of 'Sing Is King', the work of building the school will get started.
