Does huge cost ensure BO?
IndiaGlitz [Friday, September 12, 2008]

Generally there is a perception among the commercial feature film makers that huge budget films would reach audience and result with record box office collections.

Historically speaking it is true that films with huge budget had success and remain as ever 'green' memories.

In the earlier periods number of films is low; hence budget will be with in limits and mostly story and cast decide quality of the film. Prominent actors in the lead role with pulp story ensured good results. Later, music and technical part were also considered since competition for particular genre of film surface.

Down the years commercial films reached a stage where mixture of action, romance and other sentiments became regular formula for large number of films. In order to win over larger audience Masala Movies entered in to huge budget wars through spending for foreign locations, colourful song sequences, mega sets, glamourous heroines etc.

However, results stated to be futile after some while since audience felt tired with these movies without any hard core theme, stuff or feature. Even though few films who do realistic approach won the race like Sholay, other few flopped like Roop Ki Rani Choran Ka Raaja.

Currently films like Singh is King explode BO due to various reasons but do not assure any fortune for Chamku alike.

In this context director Goldie Behl has spent Rs 22 Crores for a villainy part of Kay Kay Menon in the film Drona to suit his imagination for den of the villain. The hot spot is Troja Castle of Prague located in the Czech Republic. The cost includes stay of two hundred stunt artist for a two months period.

Similarly Vikram Bhatt for his 1920 has spent lavishly without a care for accounts and justifies that good film doesn't come cheap.

However, there are contradictions live with TZP and A Wednesday etc. with good and appreciable content followed by success of course, with fewer budgets!
