Animation Market: India Emerges Front Runner
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, September 13, 2008]

At frequent intervals there is news afresh about animation projects being done by somebody.

A recent report claims that Kolkatta and West Bengal is becoming a hub for animation works and the last five years it is slowly rising as a favourable destination for many Foreign Service seekers.

However, currently Chennai is treated as a major hub for animation works since large pool of talent and provision of cost effective craft with quality finishing.

Many international firms invade here to fulfill their requirements and some of the Hollywood productions like Alibaba were made here.

Currently Soundarya Rajnikanth, daughter of the Super Star making a full length animation based on his father which is named as Sultan the Warrior through her production house, Okkar.

India's current animation industry is valued around $ 300 million. Projections say the size may reach up to $ 15 billions in the end 2008/09. Apart from this infrastructure and exclusive arrangements there is a proposed Animation and Gaming City will be constructed in the northern region, in Sultanpur. This 110-acre site would then have an animation and gaming academy, separate facilities for the animation and gaming communities and an independent campus for larger media companies. The district is reportedly budgeted at USD $112.4 million, not inclusive of land.

The Southern state of Kerala is also planning for a similar proposal.

However, many corporate entrants in the entertainment industry add animation under their portfolio. Adlabs already had a tie-up with Soundarya.

Animation films produced locally are too well received. Recent releases of Hanuman and Ganesha series attracted all irrespective of age. This medium gives an opportunity to lure family viewers to enjoy the movie without any violent or obscene dilemma.

The major bottlenecks for growth of the industry are said to be less number of man power and lack of infrastructure. Currently 3,00,000 professionals are working for the industry but it won't suggest quality and usage of cutting edge technology.

With growing competition India should utilize the opportunity and should not fall behind the race through finding right steps to avoid such culmination.
