Adlabs and its approaching digital might
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, October 07, 2008]

We can make out from some ongoing developments  that Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group owned Adlabs Film Ltd will be the undisputed king of production, distribution and exhibition of films in India in a couple of years.

Adlabs with its huge reserves of capital is on a buying spree of cinema halls around the world.

To have the ultimate control over the films that are going to be shown in the cinema halls, the company has decided to facilitate the digitalization of 500 big screens across India in a period of 18 months.

Digitally upgrading the theaters means the already digitalized films will be transmitted globally through the fibre optic link to the exhibition centers which will in turn project the films using digital projection facilities.

For this purpose the already existing optic fibre cable spread over 80,000 km laid by Reliance Communications which is the telecom wing of the parent company will be used.

The films will be transmitted from the digital cinema mastering facility at the Adlabs Film City in Mumbai.

A new chapter in terms of superior quality of film viewing is going to take its first steps when the cinema halls across the country owned by Adlabs will be fully equipped with the digital projection facilities in 18 months.

This new system can also help in curbing piracy of movies to a great extent as well as enable live watching of sports and music concerts without using satellites.
